omething else to think about regarding McCain’s encounter with the lady who thought Omaba is an “Arab”: when he corrected her error the public booed him. Why? It seems that if everyone were mistaken they would be happy to learn the truth. But, no, it was as if they wanted to believe the lie, as though that were something emotionally necessary for them. Is hate sometimes comforting, and is its loss anxiety-producing?

tro aspecto me llamó la atención de aquel encuentro cuando McCain explicó a la señora que Obama no es un “Árabe”: el público le abucheó. ¿Por qué? Me parece que si todos realmente piensan lo que expresó la señora, entonces estarían interesados en corregir su error. Pero no, es como si querían quedarse con dicha desorientación, como si aquella fuera emocionalmente necesaria para ellos. ¿Será que a veces el odio da sosiego, y perderlo produce angustia?
