700 billion / 700 mil millones

English

am always astonished by how similar we are to herd animals. And, sometimes we resemble pack hunters. We adore our leaders and celebrities so much that we are eager to sacrifice ourselves for them.

We need to be protected by mommy and daddy and this draws on us. And we doubt our own ability to analyze what happens to us and to construct appropriate solutions for our problems. In fact, when we facilitate community change one of our goals is increase these faculties.

The herd reacts with fear when faced with any threat and begins to run crazy across the plains, even toward a great abyss -the existence of which its members must remember in some corner of their collective memory.

Examples are everywhere, just now the Congress of the United States is a frightened bunch of cows and steers. Their president shouts: “Danger! It is necessary to act NOW” and many of them forget the past lies and tricks. They stand ever-ready to raid the national coffers.

In an article published in the blog The Raw Story an anonymous author says:

"Think about it: they said providing healthcare for nine million children, perhaps costing six billion dollars a year, was too expensive, but there's evidently no sum of money large enough that will sate the Wall Street pigs."

I believe that this is really Bush’s last coup d'etat. That is why he waited till the last moment to scream about the present economic urgency. The present crisis has been predicted for some time now: I have written before about some of these warnings. Why now? The Republicans might lose the next elections, and Bush himself cannot stay in office any longer.

It is certain that the bankers, real-estate agents, and insurance agencies have financial problems. But it is their own fault, the result of their own avarice. And now they want to have their cake and eat it too. And the herd is going to immolate itself so that they can.

This is the phenomenon of the frightened herd. In another posting I’ll talk about something else that bothers me: people’s need to be protected. They will regress to babbling babyhood to obtain the illusion of passive security. This is happening in Venezuela.
